There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just over the border from nearby Thailand, where gambling hall betting is not permitted. Eight casinos are situated in a relatively tiny location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect destination, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing capital gained from the casinos ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few restrictions constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; although, funding sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are for all intents and purposes needed to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is real of many border crossings.

The initial Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary ship casino, highlights 150 slot machine games and sixty gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall is open 24 hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machines and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred one armed bandits and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and sixty six of the common table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight casinos in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international resort and hotel compound that contains many amenities aside from the gambling hall, which has ten thousand square feet of 130 slot machines and eighty eight tables.
